Special Events

The following is a list of special events and programs offered on the Lodge, Section,
Regional, and National levels of the Order of the Arrow.

Lodge
Fall Fellowship
The Fall Fellowship is an annual event held in October. Various Training Sessions,
Lodge Officer Elections, the Quest events, and Chapter Display Competitions are
just a few of the activities Arrowmen can participate in on this fun filled weekend.

Lodge Leadership Development (LLD)
LLD is held during November of each year in order to train the new Lodge Officers
and Committee Chairman, in addition to planning the year for the Lodge.

Lodge Executive Committee Meetings
The Lodge Executive Committee(LEC) meets periodically and handles the business
affairs of the Ahoalan-Nachpikin Lodge #558. The committee is composed of the
Lodge officers, the past Lodge chief, standing committee chairmen, and the Chapter
Chiefs plus various adult advisors (nonvoting members). All Lodge members are
invited to attend but are not allowed to vote.

Lodge Ordeals
Two Ordeals are held at Kia Kima Scout Reservation or Camp Currier each year, in
May and in September. All Brothers are encouraged to attend and render service to
the Lodge and the Camps.

Lodge Call-Outs

A Call-Out is the public recognition ceremony of newly elected candidates. They are
held at the Spring Camporees and each week at Summer Camp during the Friday
night Campfire.

Lodge Annual Family Banquet
This Banquet is usually held in November for the purpose of fellowship and
recognition. Families and guests are encouraged to attend. Various awards are
presented including the Arrowman of the Year and Founders Awards.

Lodge Order of the Arrow Conference (LOAC)

Section
Section Conclave
Ahoalan-Nachpikin Lodge participates in the SR-6 Conclave each year. This is a
weekend full of fun and fellowship. A few of the activities included are Section
Officer Elections, Quest for the Golden Arrow, Native American Dance and
Ceremony Team Competitions, and the battle for the Spirit Award. The “Where To
Go Camping” books and lodge websites are also judged. In 2016, our lodge will
serve as the Service Lodge for Conclave which will be held at Kia Kima Scout
Reservation for the first time since 1989!

Region
National Leadership Seminar (NLS)
Every other year our Lodge is invited to send delegates to the National Leadership
Seminar. The NLS is a weekend training seminar that is taught by the best Trainers,
Advisers, and Section Officers from all over the Southern Region. The Southern
Region Chief along with his assistant, either the National Chief or the National ViceChief, coordinates the event. NLS is a great program for experienced leaders and
new members wishing to serve as a leader.

National
National Order of the Arrow Conference (NOAC)
NOAC is held every two years at a major college or university. It is a great
experience for any Arrowman, including various shows, competitions, training
sessions, patch trading, and fellowship. Over 8,000 usually attend this event.

Order of the Arrow Trail Crew (OATC)
OA Trail Crew is a program offered at Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New
Mexico. This program consists of one week of labor on special trails followed by a
week of hiking anywhere on the ranch. OATC participants often have special
privileges and opportunities not offered to Scouters on regular treks.

Northern Tier

The Northern Tier offers a program similar to that of the OATC at a High Adventure
Base in Ely, Minnesota. This trek involves canoes as an alternative to hiking.

Order of the Arrow Ocean Adventure (OAOA)

OAOA is the National OA program at Seabase. This program is a 10-day experience
in which you will experience wilderness camping, kayaking, sailing, fishing,
snorkeling, team building (including a trip on a war canoe) and, of course, cheerful

service. The program will be conservation based and will seek to help protect the
ecosystem of the Florida Keys.

New Member Information

As an Ordeal member, you will fall into one of
the following three categories:

If you have just completed your Ordeal Ceremony

www.jumpstart.oa-bsa.org
www.jumpstart.oa-bsa.org 1

CONGRATULATIONS! Ahoalan-Nachpikin Lodge is happy to have you as a Brother.
Ordeal membership is only the first step that you are expected to achieve. Ten
months from now, you will be eligible to participate in the Brotherhood experience.
Will you be ready? There are five goals that you must meet before you are eligible
to earn your Brotherhood Membership. The time to prepare for this journey is now!

If you have been an Ordeal member for less than 10 months
Then take a few minutes to assess where you stand in your commitment to obtaining
Brotherhood. Also, check your Lodge Calendar, call your Chapter Chief, or talk to
the Vice-Chief of Inductions, to find out when the next Brotherhood opportunity is
scheduled. The Ordeal Ceremony contains some very powerful words and lessons
that you must learn. These will help you understand what you will need to take the
next step to Brotherhood. Review the Order of the Arrow Handbook and obtain a
copy of the “Brotherhood” Information Sheet to aid you in your preparations. Your
Lodge depends on its members’ support, and you can be an exciting part of its
growth!

If you have been an Ordeal member for more than 10 months
Then contact a Lodge Officer or Adviser to discuss your Obligation and commitment
to this awesome organization, the Order of the Arrow. You can continue to contribute
to your Lodge and assist with its growth and future. If you feel you are not receiving
necessary support from Lodge members, contact your Lodge Officers and/or
Advisers for assistance.

The Challenge of Brotherhood Membership

You must meet five challenges before entering the Circle of Brotherhood. As an
Ordeal member you have completed the first challenge. The next three require
steady effort over a period of many months. The final challenge you must meet after
you are satisfied that you have lived up to the first four.
First: Memorize the signs of the Arrow Membership. Memorize the Obligation of the
Order, which you received from Allowat Sakima (printed on the back of your
membership card and in the front of this book). Memorize the Order of the Arrow
official song (printed in the front of this book), the admonition, the sign of Ordeal
Membership, and the Arrow Handclasp. Advance in your understanding of the
Ordeal, and gain a thorough understanding of the Ordeal through which you passed.
Second: Serve your unit; help them improve their camping program. Retain your
registration in Scouting. During a period of at least 10 months, strive to fulfill your
Obligation by continuing and expanding your service to your Troop or Crew.
Third: Plan for service in your Lodge. Retain your registration in your Order of the
Arrow Lodge and keep your dues paid. Be aware that acceptance of Brotherhood
Membership involves a pledge of service to the Lodge. Develop a concrete idea of
how you plan to fulfill this pledge.

OA Troop Representative
What Is the OA Troop/Team Representative?
The Troop/Team Representative program was begun
in 1999, and is a program of the Order of the Arrow
that has been officially adopted by the Boy Scouts of
America. The OA Representative is now an official
leadership position within the troop or team, and boys
can earn time towards their leadership rank
requirements, just as with Den Chief, Troop Scribe, or
any of the other leadership positions.

What Are the Responsibilities of the Troop/Team Representative?
There are numerous possibilities for the job description of the OA Representative.
The beauty is that it is flexible enough to allow your unit to fine-tune the exact
responsibilities. However, the most basic tasks of the Representative will be to
coordinate service opportunities within the unit, to coordinate unit involvement with
the Order of the Arrow, including Unit Elections, Camp Promotions, and Inductions,
and request lodge and chapter resources to help meet unit needs.

Who Can Serve as a Troop/Team Representative?
Anyone in the unit who is under the age of 18 can serve as the OA Representative for
the unit, provided he is a dues-paid member of the Order of the Arrow. He should be
appointed by the Senior Patrol Leader or Varsity Team Captain, and will be a
member of the Patrol Leaders’ Council and attend lodge and chapter meetings.

Will There Be an Adviser for the Troop/Team Representative?

As with all positions in the Order, the OA Representative should have an adult as his
Adviser. This adult needs to be 21 years of age or older, a dues-paid member of the
Order of the Arrow, and be appointed by the Scoutmaster.

Does This Position Count for Rank Advancement?
Scouts may use the Order of the Arrow Troop/Team Representative position to meet
the leadership position requirements for the Star, Life, and Eagle ranks. As BSA
publications are revised and updated, they will include this new position.

Lodge History and Past Chiefs and Advisers
History
The 1994 Fall Fellowship was a joint event between the Koi
Hatachie 345 and Chickasah 406 lodges. The Chickasaw
and Delta councils were in the process of merging. The
fall elections were held during the fellowship at Camp
Tallaha, located outside Charleston, MS, to select the new
Lodge Executive Committee (LEC).
It was agreed to have a balanced representation of
leadership from the two merged lodges. After an Arrowman
from 406 was elected Lodge Chief, nominations were then
limited to members of 345 for 1st Vice Chief. All the other
offices were open to Arrowmen from either lodge. Only the
position of 2nd Vice Chief ran opposed.
The event offered identically designed pocket and back patches featuring the
combined totems of the Thunderbird (Chickasah) and White Panther (Koi Hatachie).
After the first meeting at Camp Tallaha, the newly elected lodge officers met at the
Chickasaw Council office to officially determine the new lodge totem and name.
After several attempts, they selected the black bear and the name AhoalanNachpikin, which means “We Who Love the Outdoors.” The lodge leaders
determined that the number 558 was available as a lodge number and adopted it as
the lodge number to show their connection to the Chickasaw Council whose number
was also 558, thus demonstrating their commitment to be an integral part of the
council program.
The new lodge was officially chartered on January 1,
1995. It was a member of Section SR-9 from 19951997. It was then moved to Section SR-6N where it
remained from 1997-2008. With a section
restructuring in 2008, the lodge came to be in its
current section, Section SR-6.
Initially, each district in the lodge was represented by a chapter. In August of 2000,
restructuring occurred to form four chapters, each comprised of two or three
districts. The chapters that made up the new lodge structure were: Macheu Machque
(Great Bear), Lippoe Blaknik (Wise Flying Squirrel), Nashoba Tobhi (White Wolf in the
Choctaw), Sakima Machque (Chief Bear). In 2003, with the formation of new districts, a
new chapter, Okla Kamassa (Strong People) was added to the lodge structure. All of
these remain currently.

These rules shall be in accordance with the Order of the Arrow charter and the current edition of the
Order of the Arrow Handbook and the Field Operations Guide. In the event that any substantial

Committee.
It is recognized that the Council Scout Executive has ultimate responsibility for the supervision of the
lodge program, and as such, may deem special procedures be followed if unusual circumstances
warrant this action.
Note: The current rules were last ratified on October 13, 2012 by the lodge membership. They
supersede all previous Ahoalan-Nachpikin Lodge #558 Rules.

LOAC is an annual event held in February. At this event, Arrowmen gather for food,
fun and fellowship. There is a variety of training and games, as well as a Brotherhood
ceremony.
Ahoalan-Nachpikin Lodge | Planbook 2016
7
Region Chief along with his assistant, either the National Chief or the National Vice-
Chief, coordinates the event.

10

After several attempts, they selected the black bear and the name Ahoalan-
Nachpikin, which means “We Who Love the Outdoors.” The lodge leaders
determined that the number 558 was available as a lodge number and adopted it as
the lodge number to show their connection to the Chickasaw Council whose number
was also 558, thus demonstrating their commitment to be an integral part of the
council program.
The new lodge was officially chartered on January 1,
1995. It was a member of Section SR-9 from 1995-
