Memphis, Tennessee.
May 30, 1928.

Dear Scout Official:All signs point to the biggest year Kia Kima has ever had
and on June 16th Camp will open for a wonderful summer of activity for our Memphis boys.
Many parents do not appreciate t:P.e
fact that their boy is far safer in carilp than he is on tho streets
of Memphis.
Not only is the boy safe but he derives the benefit
of on outdoor program directed by Veteran Scout men l'.nd I believe
a summer spent in camp will do more for a boy, both physically
ond mentally, than any other vacation. Sir Robert ]~;.den Powell
hns said "The essence and spirit of Scouting centers around the
camp fire 11 ond if a boy takes full advantage of the Progrrun he
will necessarily put "Outing in Scouting".
In order tho.t all boys :rooy have the opportunity of going
to camp, I sincerely hope that you will get in touch with the
parents of tho boys in your troop at your earliest convenience
and impress on them the value of their boy going to camp nnd
the benefits he will derive fror.i it..
It is only about two
weeks until c~ opens ond we haven't much tiine in which to
see these parents, therefore, I will appreciate it very much
if you will call on as many of them as possible or phone them
regarding Kamp Kia Eima and urge that every Scout be allowed
to go to crunp for at least two weeks.
If we in Headquarters
can help you, please do not hesitate to call on us at any time.
With kindest regards, I

~~

cordially yours •
