Kamp Kia Ki'illa opened its 16th s eason on June l~, 1931, and ran for
a period of ten Tieek s, closinc Au..:,c-ust 22, 19:n. Fair Tieather lasted practically throw..,hout tl1e entire season. \7e h a d more rain than last ye;:..r, but
t ~"!.i s did not at o:ny time ar:i:·ect the pro.r;ram.
Even thoug-\ we had 37 less boys
in cam::;> t :is ye c.r tl1an last I consider it tile best carap that. we ::ave had in
the last tnree years. 2:32 boys attended camp thi s yeax with 639 boy weeks.
The attew.. ance for t h e first and l<..st week was much better this year than
last. :Below is t !-:.e coopari::ion of the attendance, Scout weeks, \7eekl~r attendance, numoer of boys, and num.:>er
to stay all sumraer for the u2st six

For the improvement .of Kia Kima. I recommend:

.

l. That the mess hall be reroofed and rescreened a s it is in ve-ry
bad cond.i ti on •

2. That all the lodges be repaired as to floors and screens.
l
Cl

3. That the fence around the camp proper be re~aired as the cows
end pigs belonging to :Sill Sneed roam the camp at will •
•

l~
ll

4. That tile handicraft s!1op also be repaired and more benches be

installed.
5. That six blankets be purchased for t he Celll!> next year.

6. That one concrete tennis court be built.
7. That a flat bottom boat with cable and pulleys attached be used
for the transportation of visitors across t~e river. This will eliminate the
possibility of canoes overturning in mid-stream.
8. That in
considered if aIJ.Y of
Warren Johnston, Tr.

REPORT ON STA.l!"'T

Gerald Capers, the assistant di r ector, did a rlonderful job. I recommend that every effort possible be _mt forth to ce t him for ne:ct year.

Russell Per17, camp cashier,

wo r~;:ed

e::cellently as usual.

- 3 Bill Bellamy, doctor's assistont, uas ~erhap s t h e most versatile of
all staff men and was a gr eat a ss et to the camp .
Dr. Lester H. Shields v:as by no r.ieans the best doctor t hat we have

a.no.

Alvan Tate, director of drama.tics, put on t h e best campfire

and enterta ir.ments t hat we have had in camp for tile past three years.

Spencer Bell, ca.up ~uarteroaster and bugler, ~erforraed h is duties
like a veteran and hi'B work iTas I!l.ore t i.ian satisfactory.
Bob Carter, mess sergeant, wa s a very willinc; \'iorker. I believe thc; t
he is better i i tted for ot i1er work in camp t !:an he is for the jo·o of mess sergeant.
Bob Walls, director of \7ater front, nae responsible for the best
season of wa ter activitie s t :1e camp has had in the last three years. Hore b oys
were taut;ht to swim and core life savine; a v1ards were given this year than befor e.
Otis Tucker, Andrew Wray and Fritz Schultz, tribe l eaders, were by
no means t h e strongest we have ever had but they cooperated to the f·ullest and
enjoyed a very successf·tll seaaon as leaders of t .1e Pamlees, Sioux and Iroquois
Tribes.
I recommend t hat t ile entire staff of t he 19Sl CaLip ·season be returned
for the season of 1932. I believe tha t :Bill Bellarey will be much oetter as
mess sergeant as he is fa.-Ulia r with all kinds of food and can save us money
thro~n t his knowledge.

A new ice box was secured io1· c3Iilp tl1i s year. The plumbing in the
headquarters building was completely installed during t he 1931 season.
For the improvement .of Kia Kima. I recommend:
l. That the mess hall be reroofed and rescreened as it is in ve-ry
bad cond.i ti on •
2. That all the lodges be repaired as to floors and screens.
3. That the fence around the camp proper be re~aired as the cows
end pigs belonging to :Sill Sneed roam the camp at will •
•
8. That in selecting the staff ne:i-:t year the folloY1ing boys be
considered if aIJ.Y of the 1931 staff c1.mnot ret....rn : Arthur S::ree.dway, Tr. 7;

REPORT ON STA.l!"'T
Gerald Capers, the assistant dir ector, did a rlonderful job. I recommend
that every effort possible be _mt forth to cet him for ne:ct year.
Russell Per17, camp cashier, wo r~;:ed e::cellently as usual.
\
.. \
- 3 -
Bill Bellamy, doctor's assistont, uas ~erhap s t he most versatile of
all staff men and was a gr eat a sset to the camp .
Dr. Lester H. Shields v:as by no r.ieans the best doctor t hat we have

T'.aiz, ho\vever, \las stra.i.::htened out and he performed his d·.ities with regularity

Alvan Tate, director of drama.tics, put on th e best campfire ]?ro~·rams
and enterta ir.ments t hat we have had in camp for t ile past three years.
Spencer Bell, ca.up ~uarteroaster and bugler, ~erforraed his duties
like a veteran and hi'B work iTas I!l.ore t i.ian satisfactory.
Bob Carter, mess sergeant, was a very willinc; \'iorker. I believe thc; t
he is better ii tted for ot i1er work in camp t !:an he is for the jo·o of mess sergeant.
Bob Walls, director of \7ater front, nae responsible for the best
season of water activitie s t :1e camp has had in the last three years. Hore b oys
were taut;ht to swim and core life savine; av1ards were given this year than befor e.
Otis Tucker, Andrew Wray and Fritz Schultz, tribe l eaders, were by
no means t he strongest we have ever had but they cooperated to the f·ullest and
enjoyed a very successf·tll seaaon as leaders of t .1e Pamlees, Sioux and Iroquois
Tribes.
I recommend t hat t ile entire staff of t he 19Sl CaLip ·season be returned
for the season of 1932. I believe that :Bill Bellarey will be much oetter as
