:Bob O':Brien has asked thet we cooper ate with him in putting
over a big Hallow e'en Program on Saturda y night, Octobe r 30. It is
his ~lan to have all the childre n of Memphis assemb le at the various

program of activi ties for the night.
Include d in this will be a
huge bonfir e, which will certain ly appeal to all boys of scout age.
It is Bob's idea that the scouts should play an importa nt part in
this celebra tion; in fact he has honored us by asking t he scouts to
lead in these activitie~ and ~e are assign ing certain troops to the
park neares t them. It is planned th8t the Scout~asters of various
t roops, r.ho are to meet at the same park, get togethe r and map ~~t a

I will be glad to coopera te
1'lith you in arrangi ng these program s in any way I can. The childre n
are to meet at their respec tive parks at 6 :30 P. M. and will have a
parade all over the neighbo rhood, lead by the scouts.
My idea is
that the fire will be lighted by a torch either by Fire by Frictio n,
or by Flint and Steel. There will be a roped off area for the scouts
to use for their program s.
The Park Direct or, who will have charge
of the p ark neares t you, will comnuni cate with you and arrange to

just let Camp Director lfiyers know a few days before you get there and he
will make all a rrange~ents for the best Possum Hunt you ever had.

Let me urge th8t you have your Scribe bring the troop news to

we may use all the space the Conunercial .Appeal has so kindly consented

Saturday night, November 20th, at Overton Park, we are
going to have a scout party.
The first part of the program will
be a Will-o 1 -the-Wlisp Hunt, for which the two winners of this
hunt will receive a prize.
The rules for this contest are as
follows:

All scouts and their friends desiring to enter in this
hunt must register at Scout Headquarters prior to the 20th of Nov.
On the night of November 20th, they will meet just east of the
Soldier and Sailor Memorial 1n Overton Park at 7:00 o ' clock.
A
few minutes thereafter, they will see a flash of li~ht somewhere
near them. This li~t will thereafter continuously flash until
two boys have caue,ht the light.
The boys· will be further instructed in this game when they get to Overton Park •
.After the i'lill-o 1 -the-Wisp Chase, we wi 11 have a ·: einer
Roast near the East Pavillion for those boys who are registered
for this ChPse.
We hope to have a nice turn out for this pa rty.
All a.re invited, especially the Scoutmasters.
Hereafter no scout will be allowed to take more than
gwo Merit Badges per Court of Honor.
This is not an arbitrary
rule but is one which wa s discussed at the last Scout Leaders
Round Table and was agreed
upon •
..
The last Scout Leaders Round Table meeting was certainly a huge success and I hope those of you who were not with us can
be present at the next one and see what a good time we have and
how much good comes out of these meeting s.

THE COUNCIL FIRE
Number 5

:Bob O':Brien has asked thet we cooperate with him in putting
over a big Hallowe'en Program on Saturday night, October 30. It is
his ~lan to have all the children of Memphis assemble at the various
par~ in their neighborhood and they will find prepared for them a
program of activities for the night. Included in this will be a
huge bonfire, which will certainly appeal to all boys of scout age.
It is Bob's idea that the scouts should play an important part in
this celebration; in fact he has honored us by asking t he scouts to
lead in these activitie~ and ~e are assigning certain troops to the
park nearest them. It is planned th8t the Scout~asters of various
t roops, r.ho are to meet at the same park, get together and map ~~t a
program of activities for that nif4it. I will be glad to cooperate
1'li th you in arranging these programs in any way I can. The children
are to meet at their respective parks at 6 :30 P. M. and will have a
parade all over the neighborhood, lead by the scouts. My idea is
that the fire will be lighted by a torch either by Fire by Friction,
or by Flint and Steel. There will be a roped off area for the scouts
to use for their programs. The Park Director, who will have charge
of the park nearest you, will comnuni cate with you and arrange to
assist you in any way possible. This is our chance to ~et before
the public and show them what the scouts are doing, so let's try and
turn out 100%. More de.tailed plans of this celebration will be sent

Saturday night, November 20th, at Overton Park, we are
going to have a scout party. The first part of the program will
be a Will-o1 -the-Wlisp Hunt, for which the two winners of this
hunt will receive a prize.
The boys· will be further instructed
in this game when they get to Overton Park •
.After the i'lill-o 1 -the-Wisp Chase, we wi 11 have a ·: einer
Roast near the East Pavillion for those boys who are registered
for this ChPse. We hope to have a nice turn out for this party.
All a.re invited, especially the Scoutmasters.
Hereafter no scout will be allowed to take more than
gwo Merit Badges per Court of Honor. This is not an arbitrary
rule but is one which was discussed at the last Scout Leaders
Round Table and was agreed upon •
..
The last Scout Leaders Round Table meeting was certainly
a huge success and I hope those of you who were not with us can
be present at the next one and see what a good time we have and
how much good comes out of these meetings.
