Eight Honored with
"Si Iver Beaver"

APRIL 1989

INVESTMENT
IN YOUTH

The 1989 SME, Sustaining Membership Enrollment, is well under way
in the Chickasaw Council. Hundreds of Scouting volunteers are investing
in their time and resources to ensure a successful 1989 enrollment At the
March 3rd Report meeting of all Districts and Divisions, the council had
achieved 43% of its goal of $650,000. Armistead Smith, chairman of this
years drive, challenged all districts to complete the campaign this year in
record time. He noted that only 6% of the prospects had been called on thus
far, and with this great momentum, our objective could be reached far sooner
than ever. ·
Participation in the 1989 SME is an "Investment" in the future of
Scouting and a commitment to the Chickasaw Council. Your gift to this
important campaign means a deeper personal involvement. People like
to help other people. Volunteers are stronger suworters of Scouting when
they participate in all phases of the Scouting movement.

Eight longtime leaders were presented the Silver Beaver Award
recently as part of the Council Adult Recognition Banquet. This
award is the highest honor an adult volunteer leader can re.ceive in
the Council.
The recipients, pictured above, are: (left to right) Jim W. Huls,
Dr. Thomas G. Carpenter, Ron A. Walter, Robert W. Marshall, Sara
Jme Prothero, Saul Kaplan, and Max B. Aycock. Receiving the
award but not present for the picture was James B. Cross.
We salute tfiese fine dedicated individuals for their long-tenn commitment to this great movement They individually and collectively have
touched the lives of countless hundreds of youth in our communities.

CAMP ADVENTURE DAY SET FOR MAY 6
Council Membership Chairman, James Anderson, announced that Assistant School Superintendent Johnnie B.
Watson will chair the 1989 Camp Adventure Day at
Camp Currier.
''This is wonderful opportunity to let 5th grade boys, who
are potential troop membera see a real Boy Scout Camp and
participate in some of the fun Scouting has to offer'', said
Mr. Watson.
Scoutmasters, mark your calendar for Wednesday, April 19th, to attend the
"Spring Training" for the Camp Adventure Day. It is important for your Patrol
Leaders to attend this meeting with you. A well trained team can RECRUIT
and RETAIN new Scouts for their troop.

eligible to race in the Council Pinewood
Derby, were: 1st Place - Jay William, Pack

telling him he is going on a week long trip
to Hardy, Arkansas, at Camp Kia Kima.
Don't disappoint your boys, call the Scout
Office and let's work it out.

Eight Honored with
"Si Iver Beaver"
Eight longtime leaders were presented the Silver Beaver Award
recently as part of the Council Adult Recognition Banquet. This
award is the highest honor an adult volunteer leader can re.ceive in
the Council.
The recipients, pictured above, are: (left to right) Jim W. Huls,
Dr. Thomas G. Carpenter, Ron A. Walter, Robert W. Marshall, Sara
Jme Prothero, Saul Kaplan, and Max B. Aycock. Receiving the
award but not present for the picture was James B. Cross.
We salute tfiese fine dedicated individuals for their long-tenn commitment
to this great movement They individually and collectively have
touched the lives of countless hundreds of youth in our communities.
APRIL 1989 •• INVESTMENT
CAMP ADVENTURE DAY SET FOR MAY 6
Council Membership Chairman, James Anderson, announced
that Assistant School Superintendent Johnnie B.

PINEWOOD DERBY
The recent NE District Pinewood Derby
was a tremendous success! Over 150 friends
and parents watched as 67 boys raced their
homemade cars against some very tough
competition. Bob Randall and his Pinewood
Derby committee provided a fine track and
an exciting double elimination format that
kept all participants involved until the end.
All participants were winners and received
certificates. The top 3 finishers, who are
eligible to race in the Council Pinewood
Derby, were: 1st Place - Jay William, Pack
265: 2nd Place - Mark McKenzie, Pack 83;
3rd Place - Brad Carter, Pack 410. Congratulations
to all involved!
