<text>A peer the 21th century Boy Scouts of America in the foothills of the Arkansas Ozarks live 540 acres of scouting adventure 30 weeks of Scouting program packed into one week of voice out summer camp, a place where boys Gods could work on rank advancement over 30 merit badges venture to a 30-mile hiking trip or a 50-mile canoe trip. It's called, Yakima. That's the Indian zone word for nest of the Eagles. Boots have been caving here since 1916 to work on their Eagle rank. They will again this summer, and this is your invitation to join them and put into practice. The 12 points of the Scout Law, "A States Trust was each day is an experience for the scouts at cinema.

They may be getting ready to attempt a mile swim or finish work on another merit badge. Kaye is the place for all this and more with a lake and river a shooting range for rifle, shotgun, and archery camp fire arena, climbing a repelling tower non-denominational Chapel at trading posts and a newly relegated co-course.

A scout is loyal.

One of those goals of boycotting is to help the boy grow in moral strength and character the cache a camp staff is composed of experienced scouting professionals who make it their job to give each boy scout the best summer camping experience, they can that includes teaching swimming to those scouts who have mastered those skills yet instructing merit badges during the day, providing entertainment and night and making sure the troop travels on a well feed on and cortisol for.

There are three distinct camping experiences at Kyocera, camp Osage camp Cherokee, and Ozark venture-based camp, Osage provides three meals a day, in a screened in dining all for troops who would rather spend their time working on other areas of their scouting skills.

The dining hall staff takes care of the food and clean up afterwards.

Camp Cherokee provides the groceries for a complete meal three times a day, for the scouts themselves to cook by patrol or troop method scouts, go to practice, they're cooking and clean up skills.

The Osage as the South Port of the spring river running through its North West perimeter here's God's can swim fish both canoe and enjoy all the pleasures of cool water on a hot summer day camp Cherokee is placed around John A Cooper Lake with all the same water sports along with fishing piers and both Docs each camp has their own water safety staff, so both water fronds can be open at the same time.

Yeah, I, I rely both camps have their own trading post complete with t-shirts, souvenirs, camping equipment, and everything a scout might need during summer camp, the states. Can you tee each week during summer camp, season? An honor? Tru is selected amongst all the troops attending that we honor troops. Half the show scout spirit, good will complete a service project and have a good attendance, record to all activities and so on out as kind one of the choices that kayakers camp site number 13, it's a special camp site for special needs. We are very afraid they're accessible for who chairs and closer to the restaurant facilities and it makes it really helpful because they have electrical outlets here. And we had one young man that needs to sleep with oxygen at night time.

And that's a little bit too more helpful. That would be if we were just out in the woods somewhere I'm gonna have that kind of accessibility so it's a good camp, site. And I would strongly encourage any troop who does have special needs, that this would be the kind of place they wanna come to.

He, the scales, and be with the second goal of Boy Scouts, is participating citizenship from the flag raising following breakfast to senior patrol leaders, meetings to service projects for the honor true to vespers to the flag lowering after dinner scouts are reminded of their duty to God, and country the a score that's tearful.

It wouldn't be summer camp without singing camp fires camp fire skits games, contest friendly Trop competition, a watermelon Festival and a water festival and scatters it, a big part of Boy Scout summer camp is earning merit badges to get closer to the Dean here over 30. different merit badges are offered. Scouts can average earning five merit badges in one week for younger scouts. There is the pioneering program designed to give them a fast start, in the 10 second class and first class ranks. If they work hard, they can get most of the requirements done for more than just one rank. This gives them a big boost towards advancing in a race all in just one week at the water front, also provide the chance to earn the Boy Scouts of America lifeguard certificate and the mile swim, patch. Not an opportunity that comes along, often.

A scout is brave.

The final goal of scouting is the development of physical, mental and emotional fitness project. Cope stands for challenging outdoor personal experience.

This is the portal to the story behind it goes, "You're on the Titanic and you realize you've lost something in your cabin. Well, right, as you go into your cabin, bam, there's an iceberg in your bed.

So what are you gonna do? You have to get you and your whole family.

This is your lovely wife on the way you have to get you in your six years. All family, all three of you through the porthole from men Sturgis bust of the glass is a glass lining the edges, you can not such the edges of the tire high. A "Cheema is one of the oldest yet, recently renovated and expanded co-courses of any Boy Scout, camp.

Basically, what I supposed to do, is teach, teamwork and leadership and communication skills to the voice where they... We give them element and their objective is to get through it. And I hope... Leyte end of the book there's a better feeling of camaraderie, and stuff like that.

How do you go about developing that team work and communication at when you give them an element, they're different ways. For instance, every rep is different. You might have one ledgers. Quiet stand out this man I wanna get in bed. So, basically, what we can do is making... Like I... That's a good example, like you have one guy, he talks too much or wants to take up all the time to me.

Alright, when we like to Andre or whatever. So they just... We he... Everybody else has to take over for me to just one person at a... The goals of Project COPE, are to build leadership self-esteem decision-making trust and teamwork. This is accomplished by progressing through a series of increasingly physical and mentally challenging exercises that require teamwork and cooperation to complete.

We start out with the vertical play pin which is just a series of obstacles, as you move up and you go into the multiverse, which is the ropes that hang down and you move from rope to rope along the cable and then you go into the Gap step, which is 4 foot 2, 5-4 for the part, and you step from one of the other when you go into the one wire, high attention to verse which is just a single cable and you hold on to rope and get from one end to the other, I believe that's 25-foot long or something like that, and then you go into the sky walk which is the loop that you go from like lip and there are four of them out there, and that's probably...

I believe the skywalk... Is probably emotional. Racing a tent that we have. It is open to Scouts 13 years or older, but any scout can get a taste of code in the afternoon during summer camp, for boys, 13 years or older. hakea... Is the... Oren "Ure base for a 30-mile hike of the ozone trail in the Mankato Al horse in sugar Missouri "cyathea furnishes the dehydrated food cooking equipment. Other group equipment at a staff guide if canoeing is "Wardour liking Kemper is a 50-mile canoe trip on the 11 point River in Sun Missouri.

The staff guide brings the dehydrated food cooking equipment canoes and other group equipment.

A state is a line each camp site of Gage in both camps, Osage and camp Cherokee have out Lola trains equipped with the community sink in a cold water shower. In addition, the 23-cap sites of both camps are within walking distance of restrooms complete with hot showers and flush toilets.

I started over it. or, "Thank you for bringing us to this place is beautiful, singer to see some of your wonderful things that you've created a well-to-give us life. We just thank you that you brought us up here today and that I will be here to or some of your word and to listen to what you want us to do with our low... You peasantry, had an in a tent.

The scouts is a non-denominational organization, but at the same time, we all believe in, Once pre-being in one God and they'll be able to come up here and they'll probably read some scripture or just speak about the principles of scouting and how that relates to the supreme being and the belief in an afterlife.Vespers are held each week of summer camp at the non-denomination will go lightly, all based chapel because the outs are encouraged at all. Times to practice their faith in their own faction.

Well, we, we in boys got a race on a adventure as Ottoman welcome everybody to another edition of use channel. This Mid-South had doors. I'm Joe margins and I'm... Jeff. Was Joe re-ever-boy scout?

No, they didn't have a scout chapter and town and "Bardwell Kentucky at but they didn't, but I was a skater wasn't much one, I didn't get to too many. Maria baiting I got about eight here. They for canoeing swimming or electricity, and then the basket waving. Where did you find this? I got this, I the attic, a few days ago recently we were invited over to ice a Scout Reservation to take a little trip. And they're not just doing things like basket weaving anymore.

This is a bit a man in A... And the one we did, or the throne today, it was a 5-8 plus a little bit order on the line.

So, I replenishes thing. We started out on our repelling tower that we've had for a few years and they get the feel of how to use their equipment, to take care of the equipment, and some of the different climbing skills and then when we bring them out here to kinda give them a basic idea of how to different rock holds in different ways of things care.

We've been planning for several years, the camping committee, and then volunteers and our counts providing activity for older scout. I think everybody should do that. They really want like rock climbing or rappelling or anything like that. See, I've never repelled or run forever, and I think it's great.

Our new programs that then well received this year we've not been at maximum level that we feel like by next year we'll be taking a the role of Get-in-line to go.

I mean, even after the first time after they fired or even repelled down on the rock their confidence level goes up and it helps them out when they go to the next lumen when they get back, we'll go back and work on the Tower, a little bit more and get back on the tower. They'll have that confidence because they can do it on rocks, they can definitely do it. One Tower. It definitely helped them, that a lot in a...

I gotta go out and make it out. And we do have a 50-mile-an-track on the 11 point River. Usually, we have about 10 scouts going that for a week and we have a staff guy, that goes with them and actually can do for five days, about 10 miles per day and camp out at night, and one of the oars, at a four as can be to close.

First of all, just the physical challenge of canoeing, that far out. They have to carry their own water and stuff like that, everything they need for the trip, they carry dehydrated food. And during the course of that trip, they do several different fun activities they're saying 80 foot spring that's kind of an interesting... It's called Blue hole, it's a round Spring about 50 foot in diameter. I guess they win that. It's about 30 degrees just about the freeze it's really cold and there's also a key usually end up going to plucking on that trip, so there's several nicest along the way.

Your aging up there in the week, they start off by coming down here and learning the horse. Is it that they'll take the forest brush it down and settle it up by their sell that to claim the styles. Had I feed the horses and know how to take care of a porn how to kinda see some of the signs when the horse gets sick, and how to be able to take care of it if they need to.

Most people that are experienced, you can use to kind of is all of the horses, you get stuff like as the feed and are like in A-N-A-A-E-E-E-E, and well, it's not very much of Kennedy for his territories when they live in the city. A lot of the kids addition to summer campers live in the city and don't have much of it to come up and DR. and see a little bit of country life, and it's a great opportunity to let them know what the responsibilities of taking far of an animal is, and in the right and animal.

Then I get in doing good job, it's really good.

They've got great instructors. And it was a new twist.

They've never done anything like this for and inspire somebody that really doesn't like a fat want to do it more and more.

We want to maintain that interest, but they also want to develop the older scouts in a definite way. provides more leadership skills is no courage in the rank the hills to have already... It also gives them an opportunity to better the self then. And he really goes in the positive thing to do in the out of doors. That's a countable.

So I'm not gonna say that I feel it because I always had a great time when I was at cache, but we never got to do anything like that. I'm sorry we didn't have a boy scout troop, and "Bardwell Kentucky is a... Hey, you could have gone in a and ran your own land, you got your back in a job, but now they're talking about a common trip. 5 mine, a lot of post-gonna say, "Well I can do when I was a cake. You didn't canoe 50 miles, that's pretty impressive, right? And it really is a well rock climbing, water skiing and horseback riding are the only things that are new at ACES. Reservation but some of the new activities aren't new at all.

And when we come back, we'll show you some of the things that the scouts are learning that will keep them right on target. Stay with us, everybody right here in use can. Freeman South outdoors. We're coming right back that when you put... So as I welcome back and use channels in South outdoors and food in Joe Arkansas, I'm Jeff Woods Jeff we've had a chance to show... So the viewers out there some of the newer things over KCET some of the new things aren't new at all.

We usually prevent scout from play in, and fire, but this is a constructive effort here where they are working in fire to change a piece of metal, it from its original source or something that they have in their master. Gonna make it, you can see it in their face, that brands do you need a half-inch piece of Rod and any 11-year-old can take up to a... But it is with a one, and with one hand, they can shake that Meltwater.

They didn't realize how fast we made with the come properly heat on or in a one that that is pretty close.

One of the other popular things they do in addition to metal work is the mouth throwing and that's a thing they look forward to each day. It's one of the skills you use back in the pre-days is similar to horses, and it's a competition and there is skilled in little hand coordination, and it is a lot of fun, especially in... You've seen those people breaking out the part that "Nicolson the in a U it's... We all get to deal, they have some of the truth. Just come back to check and yes to throw the pot.

I told me, so I got a... We hope to utilize our cabin a lot more in the coming year to have a little ragged store, like you might have found in the fines as A... To make-in life so can essential on the serial for the in here, we to do some other things like have our group come up to Stock, like an inner-on day night to be able to offer things that were indicative of that area.

The spring is a beautiful, beautiful hole of water, there is no march around it comes right out the sides, the deal completely dry around it one flow. And one of the things that we just... Is that we capture the Spring have for interest, water going into tank even a large wine the book, and you can re-easily enters. rend proud that the beautiful attraction. I had a lot of rainbow trout because they can live in that war was come out again six degrees or so in... They get to try out something that they've seen or heard about, so you have to see it. Or he really go after so I too in shooting their tax. Now, you were up there, you have chance to throw one of those handsets. Yeah, Dad, how do you do? The name of the game is cut the car. And do we see proof for the card, I don't have a ride but I did cut the car lot. I'll tell you no, but like you're working for at that you know another thing, yeah, that I saw in that story that reminded me that Clear Water Spring was really cold and it reminds me that the water in the Spring River is just as cold. It was 20 years ago, so he went up to scale, to go in rock climbing and riding horses and things like that. These days, something are still cold in that river. Some things never changed. And I tell you what that... That's a great adventure for scale, it really is.

Well, just as you may have wondered how folk shaped metal back in the old days, you may have wondered what's under that. Damn, that's holding your area like back but wonder no more, because when Minster continues will take a rare trip underneath one of the areas, largest inbound. And let's stay with us, everybody, we're gonna be right back.
